The Jets entered the 2023 NFL season hoping their offensive woes of recent seasons would be fixed by Aaron Rodgers' arrival.Instead, things have remained status quo since an Achilles injury knocked the star quarterback out just four snaps into his New York debut. The Jets have one of the NFL's most ineffective offenses during the 2023 season. Fans got to see just how bad it is during the team's 16-12 lo s to the Raiders on "Sunday Night Football" in Week 10.Despite out-gaining the Raiders 365-274, the Jets were simply unable to score against a Raiders defense that had allowed 21.4 points per game entering the contest. New York racked up drive after drive without logging a touchdown and finished the game with four field goals. The Jets offense came close to the end zone twice. Zach Wilson nearly scrambled in for a touchdown run but stepped out at the 3-yard line while diving for the pylon. On the ensuing play, Breece Hall ran up the middle for what appeared to be a score; however, a holding penalty wiped that out as well. But from that point on, the end zone proved elusive. The Jets never came close to punching one in, and that ultimately sank them in a matchup in which they should've had the upper hand. Those scoring i sues are nothing new for the Jets. In fact, they have now gone a whopping 36 drives without scoring an offensive touchdown. That drought has lasted an unimaginable 11 quarters acro s three games, Rodger Saffold Jersey and it's worth wondering when it might come to an end.MORE: Indeed, the Jets have a bad offense, but just how dire is it? The touchdown-le s streak is just one of the many i sues plaguing the Jets on that side of the ball. One of the reasons the Jets have gone so long without scoring an offensive touchdown is that they have one of the worst red-zone offenses in the NFL.Thus far in 2023, the Jets have scored touchdowns on just 22.7 percent of their red-zone drives. That is the lowest rate in the NFL by a wide margin, as the second-worst team the Titans is nearly 10 percentage points better than them.TeamRed-zone TD %Jets22.7Titans32.1Giants38.5Jaguars43.5Buccaneers45.8Perhaps more incredibleis that the Jets have not yet scored a red-zone touchdown on the road. In 10 drives that have ended inside the opponent's 25-yard line, the Jets have logged eight field goals, one interception and saw the half expire after a check-down pa s.The reason for these red-zone struggles? Well, Breece Hall is averaging just 2.3 yards per carry inside of the 20, down from his season average of 4.9, so that points to some i sues toward blocking or running with le s space. The other portion of it is that Zach Wilson has struggled with his red-zone accuracy, completing just 46.2 percent of his pa ses inside the 20 this season. That ranks sixth-worst among pa sers with at least 20 throws in that area; and among those quarterbacks, his three touchdowns are the fewest. There's no easy fix to the Jets' red-zone woes, because they involve almost every facet of the offense. As such, it will be hard for New York to get its touchdown succe s there to creep up toward the mark of 43.5 percent it held in that area last season. And even that rating was good for the second-worst in the NFL, ahead of only the Patriots (42.2 percent).MORE: The Jets certainly are bad in the red zone, but they are historically bad on third down as well.Through 10 weeks, the Jets have converted just 25 percent of their third downs. That is presently tied for the fourth-worst mark since the NFL merger in 1970.The driving force behind the Jets' third-down struggles is that the team has often put Zach Wilson in third-and-long scenarios that have forced him to pa s. And while his numbers on third downs aren't too bad he has completed 55.7 percent of his pa ses for 440 yards, one touchdown and one interception he has also taken 17 Isaiah McKenzie Jersey of his 33 sacks on that down. This, of course, isn't a surprise. The Jets have a porous offensive line, after all, and Wilson has been pre sured on 27.6 percent of his dropbacks this year, good for the third-highest among qualified quarterbacks. Among those highly pre sured quarterbacks, Wilson has the shortest pocket time at 2.2 seconds; that means he has to get rid of the ball quickly or risk taking those sacks as he tries to get the ball to the first-down marker. If the Jets can do a better job of staying ahead of the chains, then their third-down i sues may subside at least a bit, as Wilson won't be required to hang in Tyler Matakevich Jersey the pocket as long to seek out conversions. But as it stands, they will continue to be among the NFL's worst third-down teams if they put Wilson in disadvantageous situations.MORE: Robert Saleh is right that . The offense's blocking has been poor this season and, outside of Garrett Wilson, Wilson doesn't have much to work with at receiver.Even so, it's hard to look at Wilson and see anything other than a below-average quarterback who simply isn't growing at the rate needed to sustain NFL succe s.Is Wilson better this year than he has been in previous seasons? Undoubtedly. Since the Jets nearly upset the Chiefs on "Sunday Night Football," he has shown the flashes ofupside that made him the No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. That said, Wilson has also shown flashes of the quarterback who looked unplayable at times during his first two seasons. And as mentioned, he hasn't led the Jets to much scoring succe s this season. Those i sues are part of the reason he remains one of the lowest-graded quarterbacks in the league by most stats and metrics.StatTotalLeague rankComp. %59.831st (of 33 qualifiers)Pa sing yards1,86322ndPa s TDs530thINTs6T-12thYards per attempt6.129th (of 33 qualifiers)Pa ser rating74.630th (of 33 qualifiers)QBR34.231st (of 33 qualifiers)PFF grade59.029th (of 36 qualifiers)And while Wilson has cut down on his interception rate (it's down to 2 percent from 2.9 percent), he has still been responsible for ninefumbles and 33 sacks, both of which either are or are on a pace to be career highs. Those negative plays have hamstrung New York, and he hasn't shown signs of cutting down on them enough to make a significant difference. So, while the Jets' struggles are not all on Wilson, he is responsible for a solid portion of them. Perhaps it's unfair to expect more of him in what was supposed to be an off-the-field development year behind Aaron Rodgers. But at this point, it's worth wondering whether the Jets should have had a more proven insurance policy behind Rodgers. If they had, they may not be sitting in 13th place in the AFC with a 4-5 record.
